Work Experience students join Arcon

During the first week of July, Arcon were pleased to host Alice and Tatiana from All Hallows RC high school for a week long work experience placement at our offices. The students were provided with opportunities to experience Arcon both in and outside of the office; shadowing all areas of the organisation such as our customer hub, housing officers, finance team, communications, building surveyors and our community partner organisations. Alice and Tatiana particularly enjoyed the opportunity to shadow our Housing Officers Becca and Danielle, as well as visiting tenants with our building surveyor Tricia on our Blackley estate. The two students were an asset to their school and worked diligently, engaging with all tasks throughout their placement, getting on very well with staff and tenants alike.

Below are two brief articles written by the students reflecting on their time here at Arcon.

My name is Tatiana and I have recently joined the team at Arcon on work experience from All Hallows RC High School in Salford, for one week.

This week as been really amazing as I have learned new things about the business. I’ve really enjoyed being at Arcon Housing Association. They have welcomed us very well and made sure we enjoy what we are doing. The staff were all helpful, Amna was amazing as she made sure we were alright and made sure we had fun over this week.

At first I thought that this experience would be very boring however I really liked it. I really liked to go to The Oasis Centre and to be able to see that Arcon helps and cares about people that are in need. I would definitely recommend Arcon Housing Association for anyone that is doing work experience.

My name is Alice and I have spent a whole week at Arcon and to be honest it has been extremely fun and a great experience. It allowed me to see the difference between being at school and working in a housing association. In these past few days I have taken part in a variety of roles- some were boring like finance. Furthermore, I have enjoyed going to The Oasis Centre and being in the Tenant Scrutiny meetings. Doing this made me realised how Arcon’s main focus is their tenants even though some can be very challenging.

Shadowing Rachel on the customer hub, I was able to listen in on some customer calls where I realised how difficult it can be sometimes when tenants can be challenging.

I didn’t know that working in an office would be exciting. Without me, Arcon wouldn’t have completed tasks like GDPR spreadsheet as fast as they did. The staff were amazing and helpful which made it easier to work with. My work experience at Arcon Housing Association is now coming to an end but I am now more confident about my future in a work place environment.
