Saturday 1st September, Platt Fields Park will host a new annual festival, for the people of Manchester, by the people of Manchester.
The Festival of Manchester (FOM) will embody all that’s great about being in Manchester.- and there’s plenty of it! Platt Fields Park’s beautiful lakeside area will be full of small scale performances and activities that reflect Manchester’s diverse communities alongside mouth-watering food and drink.
The activities available to both partake in and be blown away by are truly endless. Across the two stages and the various designated marquees, FOM will offer;
African Caribbean dance pieces; MCR Gay and Lesbian Choir; Bangladeshi folk tunes; Chinese classic dance, a mini Brazilian carnival, living history stories and poetry recitals and endless arts and crafts activities.
As well as this, various sports activities will be available for audiences to get involved in, such as BMX, Kurby and Toddler soft play zones. Exploring the female voice, identificaiton and Britishness can be experienced through spoken dance performances and recitations, followed by Manchester Incident Response dog team, where police dogs will demonstrate their agility and obedience as they sniff out evidence and chase down ‘criminals’. One of our community fund recipients, The Yaran Centre will be exhibiting their women’s Persian dance troupe on the day which will be an opportunity for the group to exhibit the work they have been tirelessly perfecting. Good luck to all performers!
