Oasis Centre

Arcon are delighted to announce The Oasis Centre as a winner of our Community Funding Bid, having been awarded £3,000! We have previously donated to this excellent organisation back in 2015 and, again, felt that they were very deserving of a grant based on the crucial work they do to help those most vulnerable in our society. The Centre provides ‘unconditional love, care and support’ to enable those in society to ‘overcome the deprivation around them, to live peaceful, productive and fulfilled lives’. In addition to this, the centre operates with a robust Christian ethos, working tirelessly to help vulnerable and disadvantaged residents escape the cycle of deprivation endemic in the local Gorton areas and beyond.

The Oasis Centre operates around 4 main principled projects ; re-build, re-engage, re-skill and re-start to holistically cater for the varying needs of service users, with the collective ambition to support ‘transformation for the people of East Manchester, from chaos, isolation and hopelessness to stability, community and fullness of life’.

Arcon’s Community Funding Grant award of £3,000 will go towards emergency food provision over a 12 month period; a cause benefitting those with a dire need to provide a meal for their loved ones. The Oasis Centre has already had over an incredible 2,329 crisis engagements with those in the Gorton and wider Manchester community, exhibiting just how imperative this service is.

Perhaps surprisingly, this organisation is the only place in Gorton where anybody is welcome, having supported those suffering from or having experienced sexual abuse, abuse, self-harm, disability, substance abuse and mental health difficulties. The urgency and significance to support the continuation of such critical work was something we at Arcon immediately recognised and so are proud to announce this collaboration of resources and grant of £3,000 to serve the people of Gorton.

Visitors to Oasis Centre

The Centre offers an extensive range of services such as access to GP’s and other emergency services, education and the acquisition of qualifications, housing providers,  local churches and engagement activities to promote physical, emotional and mental well-being. This comprehensive list is tailored to individuals, often categorised by crisis, loneliness and despair; we were eager to support such a fantastic and dynamic charity make lasting change.

This ambitious, pragmatic and resourceful centre, run largely by volunteers, was fully deserving of the maximum £3,000 award and we are confident that the centre will use this donation to serve those most needy throughout the year to provide emergency food relief for families across Gorton and Manchester. We wish to continue our interactions with this organisation as we steadfastly believe that The Oasis Centre is a vital charity having a direct impact on a pertinent and ever present issue in our city.
